Qualitative Representations in Large Spatial Databases
نویسندگان
چکیده
Qualitative representation of spatial information is important in large spatial databases. This type of information can be used in manipulation and analysis when no precise geometric information exist or are needed. Qualitative manipulation is particularly useful when integrating different geographic data sets, which may have been drawn from different sources at different times, which may have different accuracy measures, and which may vary in the scales of presentation resulting in possible multiple representations of geographic entities. In this paper a representation scheme, denoted the Ring structure is proposed where objects are grouped and ordered in layers based on adjacency and orientation. The method facilitates qualitative manipulation of the data and the efficient derivation of implicit information using spatial reasoning techniques. The method is shown to facilitate the integration of data sets by enhancing the process of spatial matching across these sets. The method is simple and can be used in many applications of large spatial databases, such as GIS, CAD and image databases

Saliency Cognition of Urban Monuments Based on Verbal Descriptions of Mental-Spatial Representations (Case Study: Urban Monuments in Qazvin)
Urban monuments encompass a wide range of architectural works either intentionally or unintentionally. These works are often salient due to their inherently explicit or hidden components and qualities in the urban context. Therefore, they affect the mental-spatial representations of the environment and make the city legible. However, the ambiguity of effective components often complicates their...
متن کاملA survey of qualitative spatial representations
Representation and reasoning with qualitative spatial relations is an important problem in artificial intelligence and has wide applications in the fields of geographic information system, computer vision, autonomous robot navigation, natural language understanding, spatial databases and so on. The reasons for this interest in using qualitative spatial relations include cognitive comprehensibil...
متن کاملRCC11: A Finer Topological Representation for the Alignment of Regions in Sketch Maps
During the last two decades, dozens of qualitative representations have been proposed. These representations are motivated by a wide variety of applications of spatial data processing such as Geographical Information System (GIS), robotic navigation, and high level vision. For topological reasoning, the Region Connected Calculus (RCC) is perhaps the best-known formalism. The two algebras, RCC5 ...
متن کاملKnowledge Discovery in Spatial Databases
Knowledge discovery in databases is a complex process concerned with the discovery of relationships and other descriptions from data. Knowledge discovery in spatial databases represents a particular case of discovery, allowing the discovery of relationships that exist between spatial and non-spatial data, and other data characteristics that aren’t explicitly stored in spatial databases. This pa...
متن کاملپتانسیلهای محض SU(3) در مدل ورتکسهای مرکزی پهن
The potentials between static sources in various representations in SU(3) are calculated on the basis of the fat-centre-vortices model of Faber, Greensite and Olejník. At intermediate distances, potentials are in qualitative agreement with “Casimir scaling,” which says that the string tension is proportional to the quadratic operator of the representation. At large distances, screening occurs...
